Catherine Trillo is now trading as a social enterprise; Lydia's House Ltd.
Catherine has worked hard over the past year to build up a social enterprise - Lydia's House - whose main goals are to provide training and employment for disadvantaged women in the North East of England, and produce high quality frames, prints and the restoration of antique furniture and textiles.
Lydia's House will be self-financing through the sales and restoration of decorative crafts and of training and accomodation services. It has already begun trial production of:
1. High quality replica prints of antique textiles
2. Traditional quality art frames
3. Fine restoration of antique furniture
4. Conservation of fine antique textiles
Lydia's house offer a wide range of products and services.
-Limited Edition Fine Art Prints
Presently there are twenty five prints in the series ranging from 17th century fine silk embroideries through to the 1900's Arts & Crafts 'applique work'
Fine Art Prints are an incredible reproduction of the original needle work printed using the latest giclee printing technology, making it difficult to differentiate between the textile and the print.
the whole process requires patience and diligence to produce the high quality finished product.
-Fine Art Framing
Lydia's house produce high quality frames using traditional methods such as gesso. This involves a relative complex production process with a high quality finish.
-Antique Furniture Restoration
The staff are trained in restoration of antiques and textiles by those with extensive experience. See our current range HERE
-Antique Textile Conservation
We conserve antique textiles using very traditional methods
-Retailing
As the founder of Lydia's House, Catherine Trillo has extensive experience with the antique furniture and textiles being worked with through the company.
The main retail is being done in rented space as part of an antiques and craft centre, "@Fern Avenue" in Jesmond, Newcastle.
-Interior Design
Catherine offers an interior design service placing antique furniture, framed antique textiles and all other aspects of designed interiors. She has also developed close links with a number of interior designers providing furniture, textiles and prints.
The women who are working for Lydia's House will receive full training in frame making techniques. Individually developed to suit each trainee.
This training will be a key way in which they will gain stability, self discipline, and also discover their own creativity as they develop their own skills and techniques.
Lydia's house will provide both a caring and business environment, which is crucial for the healing processes the women training with us will be going through as they are with us.
